This year's street fair is over, but we'll be back in 2005.
Each year, Rockridge merchants and residents put on a street fair, with food, music, outdoor displays, and kitchen tours. Market Hall's centerpiece for the street fair is a Picnic in the Street. We block off Shafter Avenue adjacent to the Market Hall, set up picnic tables, sell food and drinks from each of our shops.
Once again, Paul Marcus Wines will be pouring wines by the glass ($4) to accompany your lunch or snack. This year we're featuring the wines of two of our favorite California producers: Handley Cellars and Edmunds St. John.
Andrea Lederle (pictured right) joins us from Handley to pour their Mendocino Pinot Noir and Anderson Valley Sauvignon Blanc. Find out why the cool-climate Anderson Valley makes some of the most refreshing and elegant wines in California, and talk to Andrea about Handley's move to certified organic winegrape growing.
Edmunds St. John founder and winemaker Steve Edmunds (pictured left sorting grapes) will race back from harvest to pour his California Syrah and a surprise bottle or two. Steve will be able to give us a report on the 2004 vintage and describe his hands-on approach to making terroir-driven wines from vineyards around the state.
"Wine is food" serves as our guiding motto at PMW, so come talk to Andrea, Steve, and the PMW staff about how to match wines with what you're eating, be it an Enzo's sausage sandwich, cheese from the Pasta Shop, some shellfish from Market Hall Fish, or spit-roasted pork from Olivetto.
The Picnic in the Street happens right outside the doors of the wine shop on Sunday September 26 from 11:00 until 4:00. See our about Paul Marcus Wines page for location and directions.
